Offkeep

We built the storage we wanted to use.

Independent, European, and unable to open a single file you upload. The rest of this page is the whole reasoning, in plain language.

About Offkeep

A short history of where your files live, and why we think it can work better than it does.

Files used to live in a drawer. It could burn or flood, and it could only be in one place at a time. But nobody ever had to explain to you who else could open it.

Then came floppies, hard disks, and thumb drives. Storage became something you owned and carried around. What could go wrong with your files was mostly you: you dropped it, lost it, or forgot to make a copy.

The cloud fixed that. Your files follow you between devices and survive a broken laptop. But they now sit on someone else’s computer, at a company with its own reasons to look at them — ads, recommendations, safety checks, and lately training data. The monthly fee was never the whole price.

The pricing got strange too. Disks keep getting cheaper, and consumer plans mostly do not. You buy 200 GB to store 90. Storage arrives bundled with an office suite you never open. Every plan has a ceiling, and past it you simply cannot buy more.

We think both of those are choices, not facts of life. Encrypt a file before it leaves your device and the company holding it cannot read it — that is maths, not a promise. Charge by the gigabyte and the bill becomes a number you can check against what you actually keep.

You should not have to trust us with your files. So we built it that way.

That is most of what there is to say about us. Offkeep is independent and based in Europe. We hold no key to your account, we sell one thing, and the first 6 GB are free, so you can test the claim before paying for it. What is shipped, in beta, or still just planned is on the roadmap, and the security page explains the encryption in full.

Principles

What we believe

Encryption is not a feature

Files are encrypted on your device, on every plan, including the free one. There is no tier where we can read them.

Storage priced like storage

You pay for what you actually store, from $0.01 per GB. No plan three times bigger than you need.

Your files are not the product

Nothing you upload is scanned, indexed, or used for training. The only money we make is the amount on your invoice.

Say what is true

The roadmap shows what is live, what is in beta, and what is still just a plan. You can check on us instead of trusting us.

Independent and European

We are based in Europe, and you choose the region your files are stored in when you sign up.

Easy to leave

Open formats, open-source encryption code, no storage ceiling, no exit fee. Staying should be a choice.

The other half

Things we will not do

A privacy promise is really a list of money a company agrees not to make. Here is ours.

We will not scan your files

Not for ads, not for recommendations, not for training. The encryption makes it impossible, not just against the rules.

We will not hold a key to your account

Your keys are created on your device and never sent to us. We cannot hand over what we do not have.

We will not bundle in things you did not ask for

No office suite, no photo assistant, no AI helper folded into the price. You are buying somewhere to put your files.

We will not charge you for space you freed up

Delete half your library and your next bill halves. Metered pricing only counts if it moves both ways.

Do not take our word for it

Read how the encryption works, see what a month would cost you, or watch the roadmap move. If something here does not add up, tell us.
